Tremor in Accra: Prepare for earthquakes – Geological Service warns
The Geological Survey Authority says the fault lines are active which means that an earthquake can occur at any time.

This follows a string of tremors that hit some communities in the capital, Accra.

On Sunday, some parts of Accra experienced the earth tremor which reportedly lasted for a few seconds.

The tremor shook buildings and created panic among the residents, some of who ran out of their homes at around 7:50 am.

Among the affected areas were Kasoa, Weija and Gbawe in the Ga South Municipality.
"Just experienced an Earth Tremor in the Weija/Mccarthy Hill area," a resident wrote on Facebook.
"My heart just missed a couple of beats. I felt it in my room this morning and I nearly run out of the room," another added.

According to Senior seismologist Nicholas Opoku, residents living around the affected areas should be worried.
He said the signs picked up have so far not been encouraging.

“We should be scared if where these events are occurring have human exposure, buildings and societal activities.
“We have been talking about earthquakes all these while. The fault systems that give rise to these earthquakes are active and they can give a big earthquake in future which can be disastrous,” Mr. Opoku said, as quoted by Myjoyonline.

He further called for people living in earthquake prone areas to be evacuated immediately.
According to him, “if we don’t build there at all we have low risks”.
