Judgement on Ghana-Ivory Coast maritime boundary dispute ruling in September

Ghana in its final submission called on the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), not to be swayed by Ivory Coast’s argument.

He made the disclosure at a stakeholders’ forum on Ghana’s 10 years experience as a commercial oil producer in Accra organised by the Petroleum Commission.

He said a victory for Ghana will help attract more investors into the oil and gas sector.

“With the final judgment by September 2017, the Ghana legal and technical team has put in their very best efforts, consequently we are very hopeful of securing a favourable decision, it is expected that the ruling will provide investors with the certainty they need to make long-term investment decisions in this country,” Agyarko said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has indicated the two countries must accept the final outcome of the ruling.

Speaking in Ivory Coast last month, the President opined that it is important to the populations of the two countries that they leave in peace and harmony.

“Whatever the result of that litigation, and, naturally, I hope it goes in favour of Ghana, I want to assure President Ouattara, his government and the Ivorian people of the determination of my government to work with you in a healthy manner of co-operation to deal with the consequences of the pending judgement,” said president Akufo-Addo.
