'CPP will cause a shock in November' – Greenstreet

Mr. Greenstreet strongly believes that should there be a run off, “we [CPP] are likely to be in first place and we will be approached by the NDC or the NPP to discuss with us to join them.”

He remarked that just as he surprised Ghanaians during his party’s presidential primaries, he will do same during the national elections.

“We are going into the elections to win. The same way we caused a shock by winning at the Trade Fair site, it is the same way we are going to cause a shock by winning at the national level,” said Mr. Greenstreet in an interview on Radio Ghana.

The delegates of the CPP last Saturday voted overwhelming for Mr. Greenstreet to lead them into the November Presidential elections.

His closest contender, Samia Nkrumah who is the daughter of Ghana’s first President and founder of the CPP, was tipped to win the primaries but Mr. Greenstreet beat her and two other contenders in a landslide victory.

Although many have hailed his election, some are of the view that he, together with the CPP will not be able to win the national elections.

Pollster Ben Ephson has predicted that the CPP flagbearer can only make an impact by causing the elections to go into a run off.

However, Mr. Greenstreet strongly believes that should there be a run off, “we [CPP] are likely to be in first place and we will be approached by the NDC or the NPP to discuss with us to join them.”

The CPP flagbearer hinted that the party’s 2016 election campaign will soon be launched to enable them kick start rigorous nationwide campaign.

“The CPP’s campaign will soon be launched. It is not going to be easy; it is going to be tough but we believe that with the kind of direction that we will take, it will provide hope to the masses,” he said.

According to him, the CPP’s campaign message will be targeted at the youth because “you know the vast percentage of the population is made up of the youth…we are going to be developing a grassroot campaign based on a ‘green campaign’, greening Ghana by creating jobs through innovative means.”

He said the CPP is working to be “very visible” through the “green campaign we are going to run to attract the youth.”
