CAF Confederations Cup: Hearts of Oak drawn against Algerian side JS Saoura in play-offs

The Phobians were paired against the Algerian side during a draw that took place in Cairo, Egypt earlier today (Tuesday).

A total of 32 teams were paired into four different pots, 16 of which were teams that had dropped from the CAF Champions League.

Hearts, who were in pot 3, dropped to the CAF Confederations Cup after losing to Wydad Athletic Club in the Champions League.

The Phobians were outplayed and battered 6-1 in Casablanca on Sunday evening, in a game that was largely one-sided.

Samuel Boadu’s side went into the game with a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first leg of the second preliminary round of the competition.

However, they couldn’t build on that result and were picked apart right from the blast of the whistle as Wydad sealed a 6-2 aggregate win.

Goals from Simon Nsuva, Ayman El Hassouni, Achraf Dari and Yahya Jabrane gave the hosts a healthy first-half lead, before Ayoub El Amloud and Nsuva added two more in the second half to complete the rout.

Patrick Razak got Hearts’ only consolation goal as the Ghana Premier League champions were humiliated on the road.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian champions are determined to qualify for the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.

To do that, though, they’ll have to defeat JS Saoura in the play-offs. The first leg is scheduled for November 28 in Accra and the second leg on December 5 in Meridja.
