According to Appiah, he has laid down a solid foundation for subsequent coaches of the team to build on.

In a parting message, the 59-year-old said he has felt immense pride during his association with the Black Stars, both as a player and a coach.

He further thanked President Akufo-Addo, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Ghanaians for their support.
“Through the years I was in charge, I worked with my backroom staff to lay the strong foundation required for others to build on, towards a better future and success for the team,” sections of the statement read.
“I thank the President H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve the nation. I also express my appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Ghana Football Association for their support.”
Appiah was reappointed as Black Stars coach in 2017, taking over from Israeli manager Avram Grant.
However, his tenure came to and end on December 31, 2019 after the GFA declined the chance to renew it.

This was followed by a complete dissolution of the technical teams of all the national teams by the FA.
