This is how much Ghana have lost for missing out on World Cup

The Black Stars have not just failed to make a representation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but Ghana will lose financial benefits as well

The Black Stars failed to qualify from group E of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as Egypt booked a place in the World Cup for the very first time in 28 years and this is the implication for missing out.

FIFA’s strategic body approved an increase in the prize money for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia to a total amount of USD 400 million — 12 per cent up from the USD 358 million awarded at the 2014 edition.

The winners of the competition will bag home $38m, which is an increase of $3m.

Ghana who also cashed home $8m would get something in the region of $8.96m if they had qualified for the Mundial, but as it stands all the investment the government did to motivate the team so that it would get it back when they secure qualification has gone down the drain.

The Black Stars have qualified for three different World Cups and any time the appearance fees arrive, it is paid into government accounts for development projects in the country and sometimes the Ghana Football Association request some to develop the sport.

The $8.96m is just by making appearance and every stage goes with additional amount, hence Ghana's could increase to $38m which the money for the eventual winners.
