Tom Strand leaves resignation letter in South African hotel room

Tom Strand absconds from Medeama SC's hotel in South Africa and leaves resignation letter behind

Officials of the club realized the Swedish tactician was missing in their camp on Monday morning when they were preparing to check out of the hotel. Their enquiries at the hotel revealed Strand might have sneaked out on Sunday night when the contingent were been hosted by the Ghana High Commission.

Sources say that some players and officials decided to rest at the hotel as most departed for the dinner. That presented a good chance for Strand to take full advantage to check out of the Holiday Inn hotel before the club.

Tom Strand tactically left a letter of resignation for the club's officials to confirm his intended and planned wish to leave the club. The case is the apex of recent dirty happenings between the club and their head coach.

Medeama, have twice held on to their coach to deny the ambitious Swedish the opportunity to coach local giants, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko who have both made strong bids to lure Strand into their ranks. That aside, Strand has also clashed with technical director of the club, Augustine Evans Adotey on match day substitution issues.

Strand joined the club for the trip to South Africa last Thursday after initially going AWOL from the team's training and refusing to be at the bench for two Premier League matches against Inter Allies and Wa All Stars, a fortnight ago.

The club has officially reported the case to the South African Police and also notified the  Ghana High Commission. Meanwhile, Medeama will return to the Kotoka International Airport by 9:30pm. More to follow...
