In an interview with Pulse.com.gh, he said they were not going back because the Ministry of Health has not provided everything they agreed on.

The striking nurses of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital have indicated that they will not return to work even though the Health Ministry has provided some medications and money to the hospital.

A nurse and a member of the hospital’s communication team Emmanuel Febiri explained that at a meeting with the National Labour Commission they agreed on some items to be provided by the Ministry before they return to work.

“At the Labour Commission, there was a roadmap. The Health Ministry agreed to give us two month supply of medications and logistics and they will add the money. Not until those things we agreed on at the National Labour Commission come we are not returning to work.”

“It was only medications that they brought. Our pharmacists requested for 12 medications but the brought 6 out of the 12 out of that only 2 can even last us for a month. It is still not enough and even the logistics that were promised are not in.”

Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital declared an indefinite strike effective Monday, October 31 following what they call government’s failure to provide the facility with the basic logistics needed to carry out their work effectively.

According to the nurses, attempts to get a lasting solution to their problems have proved futile.
