King Solomon Mawuena Ladzekpo emerged as the grand prize winner at the 2024 British Council Partner Schools Awards ceremony held in Accra, Ghana last weekend. A former student of Merton International Primary and High School, he was acclaimed as the Overall Best Student for the 2023 Cambridge Advanced Level exams in Ghana.

"This is truly a remarkable achievement, and King Solomon Mawuena Ladzekpo has earned our deepest admiration for his dedication and exceptional academic performance," they remarked.

In his keynote and welcome address, Doodo Nii Doodo, Country Director for British Council Ghana, Cameroon, and Sierra Leone, reflected on the significance of this year's awards. "This year’s awards are special because as we honour excellence among our top achievers, we are also celebrating a legacy of service to this country over 80 years," he highlighted.

"Congratulations to all the top students. Your hard work and diligence cannot be overlooked. Your achievement makes our commitment to creating educational opportunities for young people worthwhile," he added.

During the ceremony, Keshav Sreedharan, Regional Exams Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at the British Council, urged the award winners to leverage their achievement to contribute back to society. "As an organisation, we believe in the potential of Africa’s young people, and we are delighted to contribute to empowering Africa’s future leaders. These top achievers are among tomorrow’s leaders, and we are proud to honour them and the incredible support system that has guided them to this moment," he stated.

Efua Asiedu, Senior Manager, West Africa International Education, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, underscored the impact of Cambridge exams in opening global opportunities. Every time a learner performs well in their Cambridge exams, they open up a world of opportunities. King Solomon is currently pursuing a major in Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the USA. He serves as the President of AIESEC U.S. at Georgia Tech, a global non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation dedicated to developing young people’s leadership potential.
