Japanese Zoo apologizes for naming monkey after royal baby

The zoo will consult the British embassy in Japan over the moniker as they decide whether to make the change, reports People Magazine

A Japanese zoo called Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden has tendered in its sincere apology after naming a newborn monkey [after] Princess Charlotte. They've been asked to rename to animal.

According to critics, it was disrespectful to the Duck and Duchess of Cambridge's new addition.

In their apology, the zoo said: ''We deeply apologize for causing trouble to many people over the naming of the first baby [monkey]. We take these opinions seriously."

The baby monkey was born on Wednesday, May 6, few days after the new Princess arrived into the world on May 2.

The little macaque is reportedly the first monkey born this year at the zoo. The zoo has a tradition of asking the public to name each year's first-born macaque, and "Charlotte" won the poll. The zoo will consult the British embassy in Japan over the moniker as they decide whether to make the change, reports People Magazine
