StarTimes donate decoders and learning materials to deprived schools

The pay TV operators donated branded books, pens, bands and decoders to the Mamprobi South ‘4’ and Chemunaa Basic Schools in Accra.

The donation forms part of a project being embarked by StarTimes, dubbed the ‘Digital Learning School Project’.

Five deprived schools in Greater Accra and the Volta regions are expected to benefit from this cause being undertaken by the pay TV operators.

The project aims at using StarTimes decoders as an educational content hub to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics among primary and Junior High School (SHS) students.

In all, pupils in four public schools in the Greater Accra region namely; Mamprobi South ‘4’ Basic School, Chemunaa Basic School, Accra Royal Primary School and Opkotsu Basic School, Korle Gonnor and Tanyigbe E.P School in the Volta region will benefit from the project which seeks to help nurture the younger generation to become creative, curious and innovative citizens capable of tackling their local community challenges.

The beneficial schools had decoders installed in the school library/classroom with scheduled class times for school children to watch and practice content from Discovery Science, Davinci Learning, Mindset Learn and many more educative channels on the StarTimes decoder.

On Friday, September 29, 2017 a team from StarTimes visited the Mamprobi South ‘4’ and Chemunaa Basic Schools in Accra to continue with the donations.

Both schools were given branded exercise books, decoders, a 32-inch LED TV set, and many other learning materials to help expose pupils to global edutainment content that will inure to their developmental benefit.

Headmaster of the Chemunaa Basic School, Sam James Ahorlu, was impressed with the gesture and thanked StarTimes for helping address the needs of students.

According to him, the educational materials in particular will go a long way to improve learning in the area.

Headmistress for the Mamprobi South ‘4’ JHS, Mrs. Augustina Bannerman was also happy to see StarTimes take such an action, and thanked the management of the pay TV operators for taking the needs of deprived schools into thought.

Chief Operating Officer of StarTimes, Felix Ahonzo said he hopes to see the donated educational materials impact upon pupils in the area and to help them excel in their academics.

According to him, StarTimes will strive to do more of such donations to deprived schools around the country, adding that the ‘Digital Learning School Project’ is part of their Social Corporate Responsibility.

StarTimes intends to expose the students to global edutainment content from the StarTimes decoders that will inure to their developmental benefit and make learning a lot more fun.

The other educational materials are also expected to help improve learning by pupils in the community.
