Highlife legend, Kojo Antwi has commended rapper Sarkodie for going an extra mile to record a song with American rapper, Ace Hood.
According to him, the move shows how serious the current crop of artistes are. He opines that there is nothing wrong with Sarkodie paying $25,000 to Ace Hood for the “New Guy” collaboration.
“I like the boldness of our new and young artistes. Because for a young artiste as Sarkodie to make a move to record with an artiste of Ace Hood calibre means the new generation artistes are serious about what they are doing. And if there is a figure like $25,000 in between everything that is happening then it shows people are working hard and serious”, he said on Storm FM.
Adding, “If you go to Nigeria, Snoop Dogg and others have done collaborations with Nigerian artist and it is because the Nigerians have planned to invade the American market.”
There were accusations by American rapper, Ace Hood that Sarkodie lied about events leading to a recent collaboration to produce a song called “New Guy.”
Sarkodie had in an interview with Bola Ray said Ace Hood contacted him for a collaboration. However, Ace Hood in a tweet denied the claims saying, he agreed to join the project when a whopping $25, 000 was paid into his account.
Many have since labelled Sarkodie as a braggart. Reports are that the said money was paid into Ace Hood’s account but neither Sarkodie nor his management did.
But Kojo Antwi has said that the story may be a way of hyping the yet to be released song.
“I would not like to look at who called who and who advised who. This banter going on may be a ploy for the two to hype the production coming out. It is show business and everything is possible. As a young artist as Sarkodie doing what he is doing now, I will advise we support him rather than over criticize his effort. This Hip-hop is all about hype so let us not read so many meanings into it.”
