Deputy Majority Leader Sarah Adwoa Safo, Minister of State nominee for Procurement

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will today (Monday), March 27, 2017 continue vetting minister nominees appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Deputy Majority Leader Sarah Adwoa Safo, Minister of State nominee for Procurement, and three others will be vetted today.

The other three are Professor Kwesi Yankah, Minister-designate for Tertiary Education; Dr Nura Gyiele, Minister-designate for Agriculture, and Brian Acheampong, Minister of State-designate at the Office of the President.

Article 78 (1) of the Constitution provides that nominees by the President for ministerial appointments have to be approved by Parliament before they can act or hold themselves out as ministers or deputy ministers of state.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been criticized for appointing 110 ministers, with 50 of them being deputy ministers in his government.

Some Ghanaians have since argued that the ministerial appointments are too many and would be a waste of the tax payer’s money.
