Barcelona manager Xavi has expressed his disappointment at starting the 2022/23 La Liga season with a draw against modest side Rayo Vallecano.

On a night when many of the Blaugranas' new recruits made their debut including talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski, the Xavi-led side failed to find the back of the net.

Barcelona played a 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano on the night, despite dominating the encounter at the Camp Nou on the opening day.

In the aftermath of the match, Xavi noted that he was disappointed that Barcelona could not pick up a victory against Rayo Vallecano, describing the draw as 'frustrating'.

As reported by Barca Universal on Twitter, Xavi said: "It was a frustrating draw. We are disappointed, but we have to be patient and trust the project.

"Yes, I understand the disappointment because we had generated many expectations. We have to analyse the game well, improve, and continue.

"It wasn't our best game, we got to their area, but we weren't effective. It's only one point, that's insufficient. But we have to keep believing in the model, working hard."

Xavi pointed out that the Vallecano defence stifled the Barcelona team, stressing that they should have scored at least one goal with the chances they created during the match.

"Rayo's defensive system was very good and their goalkeeper was excellent. With the chances that we created, we should have scored at least a goal," Xavi said.

"The team was more tense than usual today, more nervous. I've told the players that the pressure is on me now."

Barcelona will be in action again on Sunday, August 21 when they travel to the Anoeta Stadium to take on Real Sociedad for their Matchday 2 fixture of the 2022/23 La Liga season.
