Real Madrid agree deal to sign Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei from Granada
Real Madrid have agreed a €2 million deal with Granada to sign 21-year-old Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Naasei has completed his medical and will initially join Real Madrid Castilla.
Naasei chose Real Madrid despite interest from a German club, with the Spanish giants viewing him as a talent for the future.
Romano reported that the Spanish giants have reached an agreement with Granada for the transfer of the 21-year-old defender, with Real Madrid set to pay a €2 million fee.
Naasei is regarded as a promising talent for the future and is expected to initially join Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve side, where he will continue his development within the Spanish giants’ system.
Romano also revealed that a German club had shown interest in signing the Ghanaian defender, but Naasei has opted to continue his career with Real Madrid.
The transfer represents a major step forward for Naasei, who has risen through the ranks in Spain after moving from Ghanaian academy Emmanuel City to Granada’s youth setup in 2023.
Naasei progressed quickly at Granada and made his senior-team debut in 2024. His ability to operate as both a centre-back and right-back has added to his appeal, with his versatility considered one of his key strengths.
The defender also attracted attention from Real Madrid before the latest agreement. Reports had indicated that the Spanish club had been monitoring his development and had identified him as a player with significant long-term potential.

His move to Madrid also comes after he made his senior debut for Ghana in 2026. Naasei received his first Black Stars call-up in May and featured in Ghana’s 2-0 friendly defeat to Mexico.
Romano further reported that Naasei has already completed his medical, bringing the transfer closer to completion.
The deal is yet to be formally announced by Real Madrid and Granada, but the agreement over the €2 million transfer fee and completion of the medical represent significant steps towards Naasei becoming the latest Ghanaian to join one of the world’s most successful clubs.
For now, the defender is expected to begin his Real Madrid journey with Castilla, where he will have the opportunity to adapt to the club’s footballing philosophy and compete for a pathway into the senior team.
