United Nations names Ghanaian Police officer Female Police Officer of the year

Mrs Osei who received her award at the UN Headquarters in New York, currently serves with the United Nations Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), where she is a UN Police Adviser to the Jubaland State Police Force in Kismayo.

She was deployed 10 months ago. Since she was deployed, Mrs Osei has trained and mentored many Somali Police on sexual and gender-based violence issues. She also initiated an adult literacy training for 49 women police officers who could not read nor write English or Somali.

The UN Police Commissioner, Luis Ribeiro Carrilho said "She is a role model to other police officers in the UN."

The award aims to recognise the efforts of an outstanding police officer and also highlight the contribution of women towards the achievement of sustainable peace.

This award brings honour to the Ghana Police Service, since the image of the security agency in the country keeps dwindling.

CSP Phyllis Osei has 3 Master's degrees: from Middlesex University in the UK; and GIMPA as well as the University of Ghana.
