Video: City guards cane pedestrians who fail to use Madina footbridge

Many pedestrians are still avoiding the use of the footbridge at the Madina Zongo Junction.

Footbridge

Pedestrians are still using the speedways and crossing the road at unauthorized places at Madina Zongo Junction, at the risk of their lives, instead of patronizing the newly constructed footbridge.

Though, the overhead footbridge at the Madina Zongo junction has been completed and opened for use, a lot of people have ignored it and crossing the road from unapproved spots, endangering their lives.

The La-Nkwantanang Municipal guards have subjected pedestrians at Madina to corporal punishment for failing to use the footbridge.

In a video circulating on social media, the pedestrians are seen been caned by the city guards and forcing some to kneel in the sand and wave in the full glare of the public.

Pedestrians called for the footbridges to help stop accidents that have claimed many lives at the said spot.

However, after completion, some residents have expressed misgivings about the long and winding nature of the bridges, hence they abandon them and resort to crossing the roads riskily.

Several persons were arrested by the Madina Police for failing to use the footbridge but it has not deterred some recalcitrant pedestrians.
