The Police and other security personnel quickly intervened to shield the referee and to save the situation.

The culprits were subsequently arrested and taken away in a police pickup truck.

Meanwhile, the game ended 1-1, with UG winning the ensuing penalty shootouts 4-3.

This comes just days after a Ghana Premier League game between Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea was marred by acts of violence.

Some Kotoko fans were caught on camera throwing missiles at the referee and his assistants after full-time.

One of the fans was subsequently caught up in the chaos, as he was reportedly hit by a stray bullet from the police.

The injured fan has since been hospitalised at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
