The former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, has been charged with fourteen (14) counts, including causing financial loss to the Republic, stealing, and money laundering, in a case involving more than GH¢600 million.

According to a charge sheet filed by the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine at the Accra High Court, Mr Assibey Antwi is accused of authorising payments to over 60,000 non-existent national service personnel and misappropriating public funds during his tenure between August 2021 and February 2025.

He faces multiple counts under Sections 179A(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and Section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

Former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been officially charged with five (5) counts in connection with the alleged National Service ghost name scandal.

The charges, filed by the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, at the Accra High Court on Monday, October 13, accuse Mrs Oware-Mensah of wilfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, and engaging in money laundering involving GH¢38.4 million.

Statement of Offence:Wilfully causing financial loss to the Republic contrary to Section 179A(3)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).Particulars of Offence:Between February 2022 and March 2024, Oware-Mensah allegedly caused a financial loss of GH¢31,502,091.40 to the Republic by transferring the said amount to Blocks of Life Consult, a company of which she is the ultimate beneficial owner. The payment was purportedly for the supply of goods on hire-purchase to National Service personnel, which were never delivered.

Statement of Offence:Using public office for profit contrary to Section 179C(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).Particulars of Offence:Oware-Mensah is accused of abusing her office by unlawfully receiving GH¢31,502,091.40 from ADB through Blocks of Life Consult, knowing she was not authorised to receive such funds personally.

Former Auditor-General and member of the five-member committee that investigated petitions against former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has accused lawyer Ayikoi Otoo of presenting fake evidence during the committee’s proceedings.His comments come in response to criticism from Mr Otoo, who accused Mr Domelevo of sitting idly by during what he described as an unfair trial against the former Chief Justice.Speaking in an interview on The KSM Show, Mr Domelevo described the lawyer’s remarks as “interesting” and alleged that one of the documents Mr Otoo submitted was forged. <h2>3. Prof Aning Raises Alarm Over 40,000 Missing Rounds of Ammunition Under NPP Government</h2>

Security analyst Professor Kwesi Aning has expressed grave concern over the disappearance of 40,000 rounds of ammunition from the Ministry of Defence’s armoury shortly before the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government left office on 7 January 2025.It will be recalled that before his tragic death in a military helicopter crash, the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, had disclosed that several rounds of ammunition transferred from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to the National Security Secretariat in 2024 could not be accounted for. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed Ing. Ken Ashigbey, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, to immediately cease using the title “Dr.” after investigations found his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) certificate from the Swiss Management Centre (SMC) invalid.According to a statement issued on Friday, October 10, 2025, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the decision followed a petition challenging the authenticity of Mr Ashigbey’s doctoral qualification.A preliminary check confirmed that Mr Ashigbey obtained a DBA degree, and upon request, he submitted his certificate and transcripts for verification. However, inconsistencies emerged: while the certificate was issued by “Swiss Management Centre (SMC)”, the transcript bore the name “Swiss Management Centre (SMC) University”.Further checks revealed that the institution currently operates as “Swiss Management Centre”, consistent with the certificate but not the transcript. GTEC also flagged the unusually long study duration, nine (9) years, as atypical for such a programme.

The National Service Authority (NSA) has officially reopened registration for the 2025/2026 national service year today, Wednesday, 8 October 2025. This marks the beginning of a new phase for the National Service Scheme (NSS) following months of audits, system reviews, and major reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

In June 2025, the NSA suspended its previous registration system, the Central Service Management Platform (CSMP), after a forensic and technical audit ordered by President John Mahama uncovered major irregularities. As a result, all earlier registrations were declared null and void. Applicants are now required to complete the process again on a new and more secure platform.

The 2025/2026 service year is scheduled to begin officially on Monday, 3 November 2025, with personnel expected to report to their assigned institutions by Saturday, 1 November.

Affordable internet access remains one of the most powerful drivers of economic growth, innovation, and digital inclusion worldwide.

The <a target="_self" class="editor-link" href="https://global-relocate.com/rankings/worldwide-data-pricing">2025 Global Relocate Internet Cost Ranking</a> highlights how competitive pricing and expanding broadband infrastructure continue to reshape connectivity trends across regions.

According to the report, countries such as Israel, Fiji, and Italy lead the world in offering the cheapest mobile data, with average prices well below $1 per gigabyte. These nations demonstrate what is achievable when governments and telecom operators prioritise infrastructure development, market competition, and universal access.

While Africa is yet to reach such ultra-low global benchmarks, the continent has made notable progress in reducing data costs. The 2025 Global Relocate report reveals that several African nations now rank among the top 50 globally for mobile data affordability. This improvement is largely driven by sustained investments in telecom networks, policy reforms, and the expansion of digital infrastructure into underserved communities.

Among Africa’s best performers are Malawi, Nigeria, and Ghana, each offering data below 50 cents per gigabyte. Malawi, ranked 30th globally, boasts the lowest rates on the continent, followed by Nigeria (31st) and Ghana (33rd). These countries benefit from healthy competition among mobile operators, expanding 4G and fibre networks, and the introduction of low-cost data packages tailored to mass consumers.

Despite variations in speed and service quality, Africa’s internet ecosystem continues to evolve rapidly. Nigeria combines affordability with moderate broadband speeds averaging 25 Mbps, enabling smoother mobile streaming, e-commerce, and remote work.

Malawi and Ghana, though slightly slower, are improving coverage through rural network expansion and flexible data plans for low-income users.

The Internet of Things offers great opportunities for Africa

The report further notes that nations with robust regulatory frameworks and liberalised telecom markets tend to outperform others. Policies promoting competition, infrastructure sharing, and spectrum reform have helped reduce operational costs for service providers, ultimately lowering consumer prices.

Still, challenges remain. Rural areas often face slower connections and higher relative costs compared to urban centres. In addition, growing internet use calls for stronger data protection laws, improved cybersecurity measures, and wider digital literacy efforts.

The 2025 findings affirm that Africa’s journey toward affordable and inclusive internet access is marked by steady progress rather than sudden transformation. With continued collaboration between governments, private operators, and development partners, the continent is gradually bridging its digital divide and empowering millions through connectivity.

At a press conference on Monday, 29 September, Mr George explained that the committee had considered cost drivers, Ghana’s macroeconomic environment, subscription trends, and other variables before presenting its recommendations to MultiChoice Africa.The process, he said, resulted in an agreement that will deliver improved value to subscribers in Ghana.

<h2>3. 1,937 killed, 10,957 injured in road accidents between January and August 2025 – NRSA</h2>

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has disclosed that 1,937 people lost their lives in road crashes across Ghana between January and August 2025, underlining the urgent challenge of road traffic safety.According to data released by the Authority, 16,348 vehicles were involved in crashes during the period, leading to 10,957 injuries and 9,626 reported cases. The breakdown showed 5,515 commercial vehicles, 6,647 private vehicles, and 4,186 motorcycles were involved.The statistics were presented by Abraham Amaliba, Acting Director-General of the NRSA, during a working visit by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey. The visit formed part of her tour to acquaint herself with the Authority’s operations.

<h2>4. GES interdicts Okadjakrom SecTec teacher over viral sex tape with female student</h2>

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Mr Richard Tibetor, a teacher at Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region, following the circulation of a viral video allegedly capturing him in sexual misconduct with a female student.In a statement dated 2 October and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, the GES described the conduct as “unacceptable, unethical, and a gross violation of the professional code of conduct for teachers.”The Service confirmed that the teacher has been interdicted with immediate effect and barred from entering the school premises while investigations are underway. The statement further assured parents and the general public of the Service’s commitment to protecting students.
